History of Old Conna Golf Club
A couple of lines in the Minutes of 2013, where the President, John Hennessy asked me to undertake the
project of sourcing Club history material and archiving same, have led me on this amazing discovery of the
History of this fabulous Golf Club.
At the time, the opinion was that no historical material was available, so I set about talking to and visiting
founder Members of Dublin Sport Golf Club for their input into the history of our Club, along with forming
the History and Archive Committee. The Committee consisted of Mary Watts, John Fagan and Michael
Neary.
We located a store full of documents which we proceeded to sort, file and archive over the next two years.
A number of Members presented us with material, photos etc. which we added to our stock of material.
When the sorting and filing was complete, we set about writing the Story of the History of the Club, firstly
by investigating the records of the past owners of the lands. This in itself proved to be very interesting in
that all the lands in the area were at one time owned by families who had very large acres of lands under
their control.
We then set about writing the Club’s History from the Council Minutes starting with the first Dublin Sport
Golf Club Council meeting to the last Council of 2016. Having read all 40 years of Minutes, it has proven to
make fascinating reading for me, and had shown the work and effort that all Council Members have put in to
make this the great Golf Club that it is today. Long may it continue.
I must pay tribute to the foresight of the people involved in the initial formation of Dublin Sport Golf Club,
without whose hard work, diligence and perseverance, we would not be in a position to enjoy the fine
facilities that we have today.

Chairperson,
